Obituary of Joseph John Capizzi

Joseph John Capizzi, Sr., age 90, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2017 surrounded by his devoted family's love. Joe was born and raised on 21st Avenue in Paterson with his six brothers and sisters as the middle son of Cesare and Ermelinda Capizzi. Joe attended Eastside High School before enlisting in the Navy where he served in the Pacific Theater. His brothers Thomas and John also served in World War II and the three brothers were proud veterans. He worked at Curtis Wright and Borden's Ice Cream, and retired from the Garden State Parkway Authority 23 years ago. Joe was a member of the American Legion 438-John Raad post. He married Marie (Chettie, née Leto) on June 5, 1955, and lived in Belleville and Paterson before settling in Woodland Park in 1965. Joe was an avid bowler at the Bowl-A-Mat in Paterson. He and Chettie loved to travel and spend time with family and friends. Joe had a zest for life and brought joy to everyone he knew. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Chettie. Devoted father of James and his wife Josephine; Emylinda Capizzi; Jeanette DeSenzo and her husband Damon; Gerard and his wife Rachel; and Joseph Junior. He is also survived by his 15 adoring grandchildren: Lianne, Robert, Kara, Krista, Brittany, Beckie, Vincent, Victoria, Joseph, Alexandra, Jenna, Cailyn, Alexa, Sally, and William. Joe is survived by many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 12 from 4-8 PM at DeLuccia-Lozito, 265 Belmont Avenue, Haledon, NJ 07508. Funeral from DeLuccia-Lozito Funeral Home on Friday, January 13 at 9 AM. Service at First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell, 326 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell, NJ 07006, where Joe's life will be commemorated. Entombment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Totowa. .
