Obituary of Joan Carabello

Joan K. Carabello (nee DiGenova), 91, of Wayne, NJ, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

Born in Morristown, NJ, Joan grew up in Boonton before settling in Paterson in 1955 and moved to Wayne in 2010. Joan was a devoted and dedicated wife and mother.

She was an employee of Dragones Pastry Shop in Paterson where she worked for 23 years. She also worked at the Paterson Parking Authority and served as a crossing guard for the City of Paterson. She was a former parishioner of St. Mary's R.C. Church,

Joan was known for her warm spirit and her deep love for animals. She loved going to Atlantic City where she would play the "penny slots" for hours.  She enjoyed watching football and game shows.  She loved doing crossword puzzles, especially the Sunday morning crossword puzzle in the New York Times.  Joan was known for her profound words of wisdom.  

She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Carabello and the devoted mother of Diana Carabello. She is survived by her loving sister, Madeline Russo and was predeceased by her sisters, Rosemarie Miller and Mary Drake. She was the cherished sister-in-law of Frances "Chi Chi" Carabello and the late Manny Carabello, Vincent Carabello, and Agnes Carabello. Joan is also survived by many nieces and nephews who will remember her with love.

A special thank you to her caregivers at Preakness Health Care Center and Valley Hospice for their care throughout her final years.  

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Keri-Lozito Funeral Home, 125 Main Street, Lincoln Park, NJ. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at 10:30 AM at the funeral home.

Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Totowa, NJ.  Memorial gifts to the A.S.P.C.A. would be appreciated.
