Obituary of Thomas Edward Cortese

Thomas Edward Cortese, Jr. , age 86, of Toms River passed away peacefully on Friday, January 25, 2013 at Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ. Thomas was born November 27, 1926 in Paterson, NJ and had previuosly lived in Haledon, NJ before moving to Toms River. He is the son of the late Thomas and the late Celeste (Madama) Cortese. He served in the Army during World War II. He was a Textile Engineer and previously owned and operated a delicatessen in Shohola. PA He was a parishioner of St. Maximillian Kolbe R.C. Church. He was a Councilman in the Borough of Haledon and was a former member of the Haledon Volunteer Fire Department Company No. 2. While in Toms River he was a performer for the Holiday City West Variety Club and enjoyed playing bingo. He is survived by his wife: Claire(nee Schmidt) Cortese, his brother; Ralph Cortese and his wife Helen of Bloomingdale, NJ, his niece, Helen Springstead and her husband Ken, his niece; Gieniene Pohl and his nephew; Ralph Cortese. He is also survived by his grand nieces, Lindsay Springstead, Jennifer Spingstead, Celeste Pohl and Tarryn Cortese and his grand nephew; Dylan Pohl. A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 am on Friday, February 1 at St. Gerard Majella R.C. Church, 501 West Broadway, Paterson, NJ. .
